a year agoHi beautiful strong people. Is there anyone on here that continued to work while on chemotherapy. If so how did it work out? Where you able to work Al the way through or did you have to stop working?
Accepted Answer
Working during chemotherapy varies greatly from person to person, depending on factors like treatment type, side effects, job flexibility, and individual circumstances. Many people in this community have found creative ways to balance treatment and work, whether through adjusted schedules, remote work arrangements, or taking breaks when needed - sharing experiences here can provide valuable insights for others facing similar decisions.

6 months agoHello and how are you for me I take the chemo pills and I can work 60% of the time but I also have to take pain pills when I get home. One day I took one at work and had to take a nap at work cause they so strong so it just depends on how active you are at work and what type of wk you do

6 months agoTomorrow is my last chemo. My protocol was ac and Taxol I worked full time. From 9am to 7pm, no lunch break. 6 days a week. Exposed to more than 200 people a day. I thought AC was hard, but Taxol threw me under the bus big time. My day off? My infusion day only. The outcome? I'm f%#\€ traumatized FOR LIFE. Getting home and doing house chores. I did because I had no option I'm the only source of income in my house. If this cancer is ever coming back and I need to work through chemo again. I won't treat. I will let nature take its course

6 months agoAs soon as I was diagnosed, I applied and received an ADA Accommodation for appointments and treatments. My TCHP chemo was every 3 weeks on Friday for 5.5 hours. My original work schedule was M-Thur from 8- 4:30 and Friday from 8am to 12pm. My accommodation schedule was 1- 2 days per week and off every Friday. Now that I only have Herceptin treatment, I only take every Friday off. My endurance has not completely returned, so being off on Fridays along with the weekend helps me recover. My labs and medical oncology appointments are every 6 weeks now instead of every 2-3 weeks.

6 months agoContinuation from my previous post....When I had my double mastectomy, I took 6 weeks of short-term disability. Even with taking that much time off, I was tired the first 3 weeks of returning. I am still have my approved ADA accommodation thru Dec 31st. As others have stated in previous postings, there are multiple appointments, and it is tiring, but working is possible depending on your job.

6 months agoI received TNBC diagnosis last year worked through chemo with periodic recovery days off- it helped me feel normal- but reflecting back I should have taken months of leave to de-stress, recalibrate. If it comes back- I will take the time off- but I will have govt paid leave and hope u also have that option!

6 months agoMy job closed right before I was due to have my treatments and finding a job has been difficult. My concerns is will the company accommodate me for my appointments and or any time off for rest. I’m currently doing the Taxol 12 rounds. The steroids gives me a boost of Energy for about 2 days and then it wears off. Next will be the AC. I pray it is as smooth as the Taxol. Lastly will be radiation. I still waiting on unemployment and haven’t received any payments yet. I’m in a rough spot but I know God will work it out in due time. Yes I’m still up and it’s 4:30 am. No sleep aids help.

6 months agoI am a teacher and I continued working through chemo. No lie, it was not easy or fun, but I pushed through and finished chemo while on summer break. Now, headed into surgery as the new school year begins.

6 months agoHello all, this very encouraging. I am still working but my tx is on Fridays which is my day off. The steroid helps but wears off on Sunday into Monday. Fatigue is the biggest problem on Mondays. I try to pace myself and take naps if needed. My focus is on doing my best no stress. I have approved intermittent LOA and plan to use it after surgery. Good luck and God bless all of us.
