What to Expect from Letrozole and Radiation Treatment

Hello! I was also diagnosed with Her2 w/ positive estrogen/progesterone. I had a double mastectomy and just started Letrizole hormone blocker. I didn’t have the best experience with my care team and have switched networks/doctors. I don’t have to have chemo, but they are recommending radiation as another layer of treatment to help prevent reoccurrence due to finding it in your one lymph node. I really don’t want to do radiation but don’t want to be foolish either. What should I expect from the Letrizole and what should I expect from radiation? . Also, I am battling alot of swelling even 2.5 months after surgery. Any one else experience this?

It's completely understandable to have questions about these treatments, especially when navigating a new care team. Many patients find that letrozole can cause side effects like joint stiffness, hot flashes, or fatigue, while radiation experiences vary but often include temporary skin changes and tiredness. Regarding post-surgical swelling at 2.5 months, this isn't uncommon and other community members may have helpful insights to share about their recovery experiences - discussing these concerns with your new medical team will help ensure you're getting the personalized guidance you need for your specific situation.

Did you actually see and talk to the radiation oncologist? Do that if you haven't. Radiation definitely helps kill those stray cells. The letrozole ,do your research. Radiation is so fine tuned, it is truly amazing how they plan your treatment

In my opinion, if you had any micro, whatever they call it in, even 1 lymphnode, I would do radiation. To me, that means the cancer was ready to spread throughout your body. Radiation like Cat says is very targeted, so that should help with reoccurance elsewhere in your body along with the anti estrogen pills. I'm about to start anastrozole.

Radiation decreases your recurrence more than the letrozole

I was diagnosed with HER2/Positive Estrogen in left breast. I had a partial mastectomy/radiation and taking Letrozole. Doing fairly well now. I was having terrible joint pain and now it has gone away for some reason. Just thankful for any time w/o pain!

Jackie, try Claritin or Zyrtec for pain. It helped me a lot. My last chemo treatment is May 22nd. Thank God. Radiation next and then hormonal pill for 5yrs.
