Newly Diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer: Seeking Support and Hope

Hello: I am new to this group/app. I am 46 years old and was diagnosed with Stage 4 Mets in Feb 2024 with cancer spread to my spine, pelvis and lungs. My story and journey is long, but just this year I have had 4 surgeries; 3 laminectomies ( T3-T7, T10-L1, C3-C7) and a surgery to remove a lesion from my cerebellum ( it has been a hell of a year). I have bowel and bladder issues. Needless to say I currently use a power chair in my home and a transport wheelchair while out. Has anyone else had this experience? I am slowly losing faith in my oncology team as it seems they just want me to accept my fate and die but I want to fight. Anyway I am thankful to find this group to share my experience.

Have you considered changing hospital or oncologist? If you still have the will to fight, you need a team that will match that.

Sometimes we have to take the first leap of faith, change the oncologist and find some place else. Get different perspectives. I am happy you are staying strong

I also have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. It has metastasized to my spine, pelvis, and a 0.5 cm in left lower lung. They said mine was to far advanced for surgery. I am on two meds to decrease hormones that feeds cancer. Keeping you in my prayers. I am trying to eat better, decrease stress, exercise.

I would check out a different Oncologist. There is also a wonderful support group that meets at various times on Zoom. They helped me to see how you can still lead productive life with MBC. Here's the link: https://www.breastcancer.org/types/metastatic

Hi , just want to give u hope. There r integrated treatments for people who are in advanced stages of cancers. I read about them. My oncologist told me in the beginning that treatment would be just symptom relief so I have taken the approach who follow integrated treatments. Waiting for my next scan but till then I will follow the vegetable keto diet along with suplliments, HBOT , sauna etc. As I found people who actually beat cancer through metabolic pathways and came back from stage 4
