Hi All!! I was diagnosed with DCIS grade 3. I had my Lumpectomy on 7/16/24 and scheduled for radiation in 3-4 weeks. Has anyone pursued natural medicine in conjunction with radiation? Thank you and healing prayers to everyone.

Many community members explore integrative approaches during their treatment journey, and it's wonderful that you're thinking holistically about your care. The most important step is having an open conversation with your radiation oncology team about any natural medicine approaches you're considering, as they can guide you on what might be safe and beneficial to use alongside your radiation therapy. Wishing you strength as you move forward with your treatment plan.

Did your pathology report come back with clear margins? Is there natural medicine for cancer? Interesting question and I am also curious to know more..

A balanced diet with clean organic meat, organic vegetables and fruits and multivitamins are a good place to start. If you are ER and PR positive and HER2 negative you might be a candidate for aromatase inhibitors and there are natural ones that can be added to your diet ONLY when undergoing radiation. Once you begin taking prescription aromatase inhibitors your doctor will recommend that you quit taking natural ones because they can interfere with your prescription and this is sound medical advice. Always talk to your doctor about what natural supplements you are taking during your treatments. Extracts are concentrated and they can interfere with some treatments, however there are many food items that are beneficial. So if what you want to take comes in a capsule ask your doctor if it’s ok. For example, capsules of grapeseed extract will interfere with prescription aromatase inhibitors but eating red grapes does not interfere because you are not getting a concentrated dose. When you meet with your medical oncologist take a list of your supplements with you for him/her to look up. Some supplements are ok and others are not. Hope this helps.
