What to expect from hormone therapy vs chemo for recurrent breast cancer?

I have hormone-positive breast cancer that has returned, and I'm postmenopausal. I previously had a lumpectomy and radiation. My oncologist is discussing treatment options including hormone-blocking medications like aromatase inhibitors with CDK4/6 inhibitors, or chemotherapy regimens. I'm trying to learn more about what to expect with these different approaches. I'd love to hear from others who have been in a similar situation and can share their experiences. • If you've had hormone therapy with CDK4/6 inhibitors for recurrent cancer, what was your experience like day to day? • For those who chose between hormone therapy and chemotherapy for recurrence, what factors helped you make that decision?

Making treatment decisions for recurrent breast cancer can feel overwhelming, and reaching out to connect with others who understand this journey shows real strength. Both hormone therapy with CDK4/6 inhibitors and chemotherapy approaches have their own benefits and considerations - hormone therapy is often gentler on daily life while still being effective for hormone-positive cancers, though individual experiences vary widely. Connecting with community members who have walked similar paths can provide valuable insights alongside discussions with the medical team about which approach aligns best with personal health goals and lifestyle priorities.

Hi Dayle! I am in the same boat as you right now! Just found out I've had a recurrence. Was on Letrazole + CDK4/6 (Kisqali). Waiting right now for the results of Guardant testing to see if I have a mutation. My team has already tried to prepare me that the course of action (depending on the results) could include an adjustment to meds (serd medications?) or potentially going back to chemo (taxol). I am concerned about going through chemo a second time. I work full-time, and the thought of navigating that a second time with my boss, my stress level,.etc. is daunting.
