Hi, I am a 5 year stage 2 breast cancer survivor, I had chemo and a double mastectomy. My biggest challenge since then has been becoming a hypochondriac, which I hate since I never used to be that way, anyone else struggle with this??

Many cancer survivors experience heightened health anxiety after treatment - it's actually quite common to become more aware of physical symptoms and worry about recurrence. This shift can feel frustrating when it's so different from how you used to approach health concerns. Consider discussing these feelings with your care team or a counselor who specializes in cancer survivorship, as they often have helpful strategies for managing this type of anxiety.

My daughter who is with me through all this, suffers fybromyagia: her encouragement—“Suck it up buttercup !!!”. No room for hypochondria or pity parties!

As an adult who grew up with a true hypochondriac, ignore as much of the internet feeds about health concerns as possible. We live in an era where we are told our symptoms could be this or that and treatable by this drug or that drug. IMO, we should be aware of the reality that much of what we view from media is big pharma pressing an agenda, their agenda: sell more medication. North American populace consumes the vast majority of prescription medications compared to other nations. We have the worst diets too. Be your own advocate for health concerns to be sure, but validate your concerns only through reputable sources. Perhaps seek a counselor to assist with cognitive behavior therapy. My mother was seeing several different doctors and getting. SSRI's and other medications. She attempted suicide when she decided to stop taking them abruptly without consulting any of her doctors. It's been 14 months and she has brain damage, cognitive impairment and loss of vision and hearing. She needs to be in a care facility but is resistant. With her 15 hours away, I may not see her again.
