a year agoHi everyone. Has anyone used the cold cap during chemo and if so did it work?
Accepted Answer
Cold caps can be helpful for some people during chemotherapy treatment, though results vary from person to person. Many community members have shared their experiences with scalp cooling - some found it quite effective while others had mixed results. The success often depends on factors like the specific chemotherapy drugs being used and individual response. It would be great to hear from others in the community who have tried cold caps to share their experiences and any tips they might have learned along the way.

6 months agoI just had my first Chemo treatment with the Digni Cold Cap. It was really cold & I didn’t think I was going to be able to keep it on the whole time but I did! You will be there longer the day of chemo with the cold caps but I’m trying my best not to loose all my hair. They don’t guarantee that I won’t loose any, but I am giving it my best shot. God Bless 🙏🏻

6 months agoI got the cap but could not tolerate the freezing of my head. Ins doesn’t cover the cost and I have a $5000 set that was used 15 minutes

6 months agoThe chemo rooms are really cold and the cap just added to my misery. Everyone is different. By my third treatment my scalp itched so bad I couldn't sleep. I got up and chopped it all off and put thick lotion on my head. It was worth the sleep. The next morning I took the clippers to it and cut what was left as short as I could. My only regret was I wish I had cut it all off sooner. Sleep is important. That said, you may not have the same experience I did. But if you do lose your hair it grows back. My normally straight hair came back in tightly curled and stayed that way for several months before it returned to normal. Makeup and cute hats got me through. Some women cut their hair and have wigs made from their own hair. Others just get nice wigs to wear. Because my scalp itched so much, I used satin lined caps and lots of lotion.

6 months agoI am currently using the Amma system from Cooler Heads. I have had it for two treatments and I have lost some hair but my friends and family don’t notice. I have two more T/C treatments so I’m hoping that my hair stays. But, even if it doesn’t, at least I know that it’s saving my follicles and my hair will grow back. It’s cumbersome during treatment but it’s bearable. The cold actually feels good to me because my treatment gives me hot flashes.

6 months agoI only used it for the first chemo treatment and couldn’t handle it so for the rest of the treatments didn’t use it and had 9 full treatments. It doesn’t kill the follicles my head went totally bald and when it grew back it was thicker than my normal hair was a curly ( I had poker straight hair!) Hope it stays a while! Love the curls!

6 months agoI used the dignicap for the first 4 biweekly infusions of doxorubicin (spelling?). Absolutely miserable and added 4 hours to the day. I still lost most of my hair, started about five weeks from the first infusion. It was harder for me than the chemo side effects. I quit using it for the next 12 weeks of taxol. Couldn’t cope with the brain freeze and extra time in the chair. Finished chemo in June and was sprouting new hair a month later. The nurses said it would help with the thickness in regrowth. Maybe it did. Regrowth feels similar, possibly a bit thicker and a touch of curl. I’m not sure I would do it again - I am glad I didn’t shave my head and go completely q-ball, was back out in public without a bandana within six weeks of the last infusion. Bigger struggle was learning to paint on eyebrows! Funny how fast it becomes a distant memory.
