5 months agoLooking for those diagnosed with dcis it’s such a weird diagnosis being pre cancer but my is extensive thru the breast and ducts and they worry there could b invasive cells as well so they are suggesting a mastectomy. Husband wants them to tell us what to do other than that. Oncology won’t talk to me til after surgery and it goes to pathology so wrapping my head around this is difficult!

This uncertainty around DCIS treatment decisions can feel overwhelming, especially when waiting for more information from pathology results. Many patients find the "pre-cancer" label confusing and struggle with making treatment choices without full clarity on next steps. Consider writing down questions for your surgical team and seeking a second opinion if that would help with decision-making confidence - others in this community may have helpful experiences to share about navigating similar situations.

5 months agoOh, wow. My sympathies!!! They said mine had to come off, 2 carcinoma lumps, I said go ahead, wasn't bad but shocking to see, bought a boob from Amazon for $10 and now chemo. Mastectomy was the easy bit. I hope you find a resolution! 🙏

5 months agoTrista Harper Hello,These are your breasts, not your husbands and he doesn’t have DCIS in his pecks !!! Your doctor is correct have the mastectomy, over and done. I had DCIS also but luckily in Situ. If it comes back they are both off- no way do I want to do it again. I volunteer in a Breast Cancer hospital and I see it and hear it. Please be pro-active and get it gone. PLEASE. Again they belong to you. And you have to advocate for your own health… Good luck

5 months agoI also had DCIS. Had lumpectomy without clear margins. Further imaging showed another large area involved in opposite side of same beast. Had mastectomy. No regrets. Surgery was late January. Recovery was not difficult. No reconstruction yet. May have breast reduction opposite side. I “ go flat” at home and wear prosthesis in public ( sometimes!). Good luck. It’s gut wrenching, lots of decision making. Take your time and do what’s right for you. I am hormone+. Not taking hormone inhibitors. Lots of good lifestyle changes, exercise, weight loss, reducing ETOH consumption, restful sleep. Take care, it’s a stressful time. My doctor told me “your breast is trying to make you sick”.
