I am to start Arimidex today. In reading the side effects - I’m afraid to take. I had breast cancer just come back after 15 years so I am told I need to take this. 15 years ago I was told no other treatment needed. I’m thinking of not doing anything now. I’m 72 and can’t see making myself sick. What are your side effects if any?

It's completely understandable to feel concerned about starting a new medication, especially when reading about potential side effects. Many community members have shared similar worries about treatment decisions later in life, and this is definitely something worth discussing thoroughly with your oncologist. They can help weigh the specific benefits and risks based on your individual situation and may be able to address your concerns about side effects or discuss alternative approaches that might work better for you.

I had GI upset to begin with. Taking at night helped. I have had joint pain, mostly knees and ankles, comes and goes and taking claritin helps. Some hair thinning. I am using topical minoxidil and that has helped. It seems the side effects come and go and get better and worse and change. So far, no osteopenia.

I get headaches, and have noticed some hair thinning (fighting it with red light therapy), insomnia, hot flashes and night sweats are my biggest complaint (trying acupuncture to treat). I agree with K B, I have had many symptoms, but they are not consistent, they come and go. I've bern on ot for over 9 months now.

The only side effects I experienced (first time around 18 years ago) was joint pain and stiffness. This time around still have those and hot flashes and night sweats. My Oncologist prescribed Veozah for the sweats and flashes and it has been a godsend!!! I started on Tamoxifen back then and a year into it I developed depression really bad. Arimidex didn’t have that one for me , thankfully. I wish you well!
