Having single mastectomy on 27. I have questions for those who have gone through it already. Do I need a special bra, tips for comfort, sleeping positions I'm a side sleeper. Ideas to get through it any info is welcome.

Many patients find that post-mastectomy bras with front closures and soft fabric help with comfort and healing, while sleeping slightly elevated on your back with pillows for support can be gentler than side sleeping initially. The community here has wonderful experience to share about recovery tips, comfort strategies, and what to expect during your healing journey.

That's such great advice about the front-closure bras and sleeping elevated - I'd also suggest asking your surgeon about what kind of pillow setup worked best for their other patients, since they might have some specific tips for your recovery!

Hi, Karen, I wore a surgical bra with front closures given by my oncologist after my mastectomy. I bought mastectomy shirts and pajamas that had buttons and pockets for the drains. I used a bed wedge pillow to sleep while I recovered. I am also a side sleeper, but I did not feel comfortable sleeping on my side for about 2 months. I also bought a mastectomy recovery pillow off Amazon and it came with a seatbelt pillow and shower lanyard.

I like the Mast bra brand. My breast surgeon recommended it.

Definitely need front closure compression bras. I got mine from Amazon. Some zip close and others use hooks and eyes. I also recommend getting a pregnancy pillow. They're fantastic for helping side sleepers. MomCozy is a good brand and one of the more affordable brands. My hospital has a really nice area to look at prosthetics etc. but I only had a lumpectomy so I didn't need it. You might want to check with your hospital as well. Also, most insurance will cover reconstruction if you want that and it can be done during your mastectomy surgery. Just some thoughts.
