How to Use Silicone Strips After Mastectomy?

For those that have had mastectomy, are you using silicone strips on the scars? I'm confused about how to use them because some sites say that you could leave them on for a week and shower with them on. Others say to leave them on up to 22 hours and if they lose their stickiness they can be washed and reused. Seems like there might be a hygiene issue and not changing them more often. How are you using them?

The different instructions for silicone strips can definitely be confusing, and it's completely understandable to have questions about proper usage and hygiene. Many people in this community have shared similar concerns about the varying recommendations from different sources. Consider reaching out to your surgical team or wound care nurse for specific guidance, as they can provide instructions based on your particular healing process and the type of strips recommended for you. Others here may also share their experiences with different brands and usage patterns that worked well for their recovery.

Hi, Karen, I have not used silicone strips on my scar. I'm 6 months post mastectomy, and I think my scar looks fine. I started applying some Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion about 3 months after my surgery and that's all that I've used.
