Comfortable Bras After Breast Surgery: Recommendations Needed

Hi Warriors! I just had a lumpectomy in my left breast with sentinel biopsy on 11/20. I have my surgery follow up on 12/2. My question has to do with bras. What are you finding comfortable as you heal? I am at the stage where nothing feels comfortable. I have been wearing a front closure sports bra that has a zip front. I am doing fine with the zipper now but really struggled with trying to get it to zip the first couple days after surgery. Thanks for any thoughts.

Finding the right bra after breast surgery can be such a challenge, and it sounds like you're making good progress with healing. Many find that front-closure sports bras, soft cotton bras without underwire, or post-surgical bras with adjustable closures work well during recovery - the key is finding something that provides gentle support without putting pressure on sensitive areas. It would be wonderful to hear what other community members have discovered works best for them during this healing phase.

Fruit of the loom makes a soft cotton bra tat has hooks and eyes in the front. You can find them on amazon. They do what you want and are not overly expensive. You can get them in packs of three. Good luck.

& Donna I love that brand. They offer a good amount of support as well. Had my first surgery back in January and I still wear them. I can’t stand any other bra since I’m stuck with this hematoma in the affected area.

I used Fruit of the Loom also. I would recommended sizing up a couple of sizes.

I have Fruit of Loom as well. Very soft cotton with non- binding support. Wore them immediately after mastectomy then implants and now nipple reconstruction

Because I had time, found some at Walmart same brand and style, I brought them home and tried on 2 sizes. For me the ones at Walmart weren’t very supportive. My breast that had surgery was starting to hurt from lack of support. (both sizes that I tried). I have a dr appt tomorrow am and I will ask my surgeon. (I have a female surgeon, hoping she understands the issue)

I purchased my Fruit if Loom from Amazon. I went 1 size smaller which gave my breast the added support without being.

I wore the one my doctor gave me for about a week and 1/2 after my Mastectomy then I took it off for the night. The doctor told me that was fine. But I did go to Walmart and bought the Fruit of Loom but with that said they have different ones for different stages ask your doctor she should be able to tell you what to get

I wore the zipper front sports bras from Walmart. They gave better support that a regular bra but probably should have gotten a proper compression bra to wear for the first couple of months following my lumpectomy. I developed a seroma that is finally disappearing after 3 years. Wearing a bra at night helped.

That’s good to know Sheila. I still have a hematoma that developed after my second surgery this past February. I guess I need to start wearing one at night. I have absolutely no feeling where it has developed, which is annoying.

I have an appointment with the lymphedema occ health person. I have areas around my armpit that either have no feeling or there’s swelling. I have started doing some exercises which are helping.

SheFit.com has great sports bras that are very comfortable and easy to use. They do zip up the front but they have 2 hook and eyelets to keep the bra closed for you to make zipping easier (like a second pair of hands). The bra straps and band are velcro so you can adjust it easily. I have a large bust and these are the best I’ve found anywhere.
