Has Anyone Done the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk?

My cousin asked me if I wanted to do the Susan G. Komen 3 day walk this Fall. Has anyone done it and could share their experience? Now that I’ve started walking more this doesn’t seem so crazy and might actually be a great goal and something to look forward to…but I’d love to hear real experiences. Thanks!!

The 3-Day Walk sounds like a meaningful way to honor those affected by breast cancer while reaching a personal fitness goal. Many participants find the experience both physically challenging and emotionally rewarding, especially with the supportive community atmosphere throughout the event. Consider connecting with others here who may have participated to get insights about training tips, fundraising strategies, and what to expect during the actual weekend.

Check how they use the money they receive from donations. 4 to 5 percent goes to stage 4 research. Metavivor researches & does studies on metastasis & stage 4 diagnosis. We did the walk 2 years ago, in Peoria IL. There was a lot of money spent on give aways.

Hi Jennifer G I love the name. I'd just work up to it day by day to do a little more. Flow and movement keep us going.

I.live the idea and it has been huge in my area. After researching the foundation I am not impressed by how the funds are actually used. So little goes to the cause but the salaries and expenses are well funded.

I did it last summer in Peoria IL. Lots of pomp & circumstance. Lots of merch given away & only 4 or 5% of the donations go towards MBC stage IV. I'll stick with Metavior. The money they receive is to help MBC stage IV patients. I sure do appreciate them.

Yes I have You will feel loved by many other families who lost relatives, as well as those who are survivors. You are loved by a special kind of people… share stories on walk, laugh definitely make new friends and memories. Xoxo

Please check them out on Charity Navigator. Look at their 990 tax returns. They are a NO-GO, for me. Super high salaries, and very little going to research. Without research, we will never have a cure. They also spend .75 on the dollar to produce these events. That means only .25 on the dollar is going towards programs. Look up Metavivor for your donations. 100% goes to research. 100% of your donation makes a difference.

I haven’t done it, but since it falls on my diagnosis anniversary my family and I are walking. Ours is on Oct 29. If you end up doing it let us know how it’s goes!

I don’t have an experience to share but I love that you are considering going for it! Please keep us all posted on what you decide. I’ve been part of the sidelines as a cheerleader in my town but haven’t been brave enough to sign up for the 60 miles…yet!

My family has been hit hard by breast cancer. First my Mom then my sisters and then myself. When my one sister was diagnosed I began doing the 3Day in honor of her and in memory of my Mom. My other sister was added to the list in 2014 when she had to undergo a double mastectomy due to breast cancer and in 2017 I was added to the list. I had my last chemo on Monday and walked on the 3Day starting on Friday. It was my 5th time doing the 3Day. I have heard all of the arguments about how Komen spends the money they raise and they pay to the directors ha ha it is not even close to what others get and Komen has been at the forefront of finding cures and helping women get screened for cancer. The only reason I am not walking now is I hate to fly and there is not a walk close by anymore.

I did the Komen 3 day for 5 years and switched to the Pledge the Pink walk. They do 30 miles over 3 days. There is no fundraising requirement to walk, but the registration is more expensive. If you do raise at least $5k, you can help direct where the money is donated. They have a different theme every year and have a lot of fun.
