I'm two and a half years out I had lobular cancer in left breast I've been taking anastrozole for a little over two years I didn't go on the bone density pill because of concerns about side affects I've recently been having pain in my lower rib cage so I called my oncologist and her nurse didn't seem worried and told me to call my regular doctor for reference I had a lumpectomy I'm scared that it could be cancer related and I'm not happy that my oncologist nurse was so nonchalant about it I guess I just need some input as to what I should do next should I try to find another oncologist ? I'm just really feeling emotional and scared right now !!

Rib pain after breast cancer treatment can understandably cause anxiety, and it's completely natural to feel worried about potential recurrence. While rib pain can have many causes including medication side effects, muscle strain, or other non-cancer related issues, your concerns are valid and deserve proper attention from your medical team. Consider advocating for yourself by requesting specific tests or imaging if the pain persists, and don't hesitate to seek a second opinion if you feel your symptoms aren't being taken seriously enough.

Hi Nancy. When you get your mammogram do you get ultra sound with it. If your really concerned ask your oncologist for a MRI. I had a lumpectomy about 3 years ago. I have Her2 triple positive breast cancer. I went to my breast surgeon and got a nurse practitioner and I also went with my husband in the room. I had pains in my breast and she sent me for a MRI. Before I had breast cancer I got mammogram with ultrasound and now they said my breast changed and I don’t have dense breasts I also had pains underneath my right rib cage for about 6 months. I felt a twisting and tightening. My oncologist sent be for an ultrasound in that area. It turned out ok. When I get my blood tested my liver enzymes are elevated every time. I call oncologist and they seem to say liver enzymes didn’t go up that much. But its out of range every blood test I take anastrozole and when I read side effects it say’s elevated liver enzymes. I hope they invent something better for breast cancer I’m in a lot of pain in my back and bones. I know someone who got off this pill who had breast cancer because of the side effects and her breast cancer came back. Talk to your oncologist or breast surgeon and tell them about your concerns again. Good luck to you

Thank you for the reply ! It's really hard when you feel like no one is listening to your concerns It's nice to know I'm not alone in this fight ! Sometimes I feel guilty when I voice a concern about anything I'm feeling because I know there are people doing worse than me i know that I'm being paranoid but I think after you here that C word you just go there and in reading all the posts I think you really have to advocate for yourself above all else ! I just wanted someone to actually listen and here my concerns so thank you again !!

I am having a really hard time with the anastrozole. I’m on my third month. Do the side effects get better or just more tolerable? Lots of fatigue and muscle pain

I feel like for me it's kind of like one thing feels better and then another one pops up ! Its always something ... that being said I would rather put up with the side affects than worry that my cancer will come back and I find that if I exercise and eat right the symptoms aren't nearly as bad I hope this helps good luck and know that you're not alone in this fight !!

Hi Paula K, I have been taking anastrozole for a year . at my 6 month check in with my Oncologist this week I asked if there was another option as I have experienced the fatigue, joint pain and over all arthralgia . I am going to start Letrozole this week and I am hoping I will feel better. Good luck in your journey , Sarah S
