I am 75 years old with a preexisting heart condition (heart failure /constant AFib) I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Feb 24 after a mammogram June 2024 had a lumpectomy and we expected clean margins with no spread. Shocked to find 10 lymph nodes were positive and I jumped from stage 1 to Stage 3 And a margin on tumor malignant. Surgeon wanted to operate and remove margin and L nodes right away. Oncologist and her tumor board said start chemo then operate then radiation

Facing such unexpected news about staging and treatment plans can feel overwhelming, especially when managing multiple health considerations. Many community members have found it helpful to get second opinions and ask their care team detailed questions about how treatment plans are tailored for their specific situation. This community has lots of experience navigating complex treatment decisions - feel free to share any specific concerns about your treatment options as you move forward.

Hi Patricia - sorry for your loss xtra diagnose. I am 72 with nodes stage 1 to 3 on left side. They wanted to do chemotherapy but I declined due to my age. Taking a hormone inhibitor to shrink the stage 3 tumor to 2 so they can operate. This is such a drag / for me this cancer is a reoccurrence after 20+ years- had thought I was through with this cancer nonsense. Wishing you speedy recovery.

I know the feeling of reoccurance. It's so deflating for me. I just can't seem to get through feeling sorry for myself dealing w it again.

Patricia - surgery “again” is terrifying plus the recovery harder when 70+. Suspect I will also have surgery maybe in Aug/Sept - actually want the cancer removed. Surgery is best for survival however your heart is a source of concern. It sounds like you have a good team of doctors and surgery will prevent the cancer from moving. Seems you are practical and very strong - please keep us updated on your journey, cancer is scary and the procedures equally scary - we all live with fear - completely normal.

Yep. The fear of the unknown. I had 5 surgeries with my first go of breast Cancer 🎀. I just prayed so hard to my God. He hasn't let me down yet and foolish things I did he still brought me through it.
