Are DEXA scans common for young women with breast cancer?

Has anyone gotten a DEXA scan or bone density scan during treatment or beginning of diagnosis? I’m wondering how common they are? Especially in young breast cancer or pre-menopausal breast cancer. Is this something the med onc orders or a go

DEXA scans are quite common in breast cancer care, especially for younger patients who may face treatment-related bone health concerns. Many oncologists order them as a baseline before starting certain treatments or to monitor bone density throughout care. This is a great question to discuss with your medical team, and hopefully others in the community can share their experiences with these scans as well.

I'm 66 now, but was 65 when I had the Dexa scan. It's not a hard test. I had one at 50. Now they have found ostepenia, the start of osteoporosis in both of my hips. Could just be age, or the hormone blocker that I am on Don't worry.

My oncologist ordered a dexa scan. It revealed osteoporosis in my forearms and not quite osteoporosis for rest of my body. When I see him next week, I expect him to rx a new drug for the osteoporosis and ostepenia.
