So updated info. 61 turning 62 end of May. Found 2 sites 6mm 7 mm right breast. ER/PR positive and HER2 negative. I'm having a lumpectomy on May 7 along with sentinel node removal. Suggested treatment if node is clear is radiation 4-12 weeks. 5 days a week the hormone therapy. I've reading on the medication but not sure what's best. If node has cancer then Chemo and radiation

This sounds like a well-structured treatment plan, and it's completely natural to have questions about hormone therapy options before starting this journey. The good news is that hormone therapy has proven very effective for ER/PR positive breast cancer, and your medical team will help determine which specific medication works best based on factors like your overall health and any side effects you might experience. Many community members have navigated similar treatment decisions and found it helpful to write down questions before their next appointment - discussing concerns about different hormone therapy options with your oncologist can provide the personalized guidance you're looking for.

Hello Denise I’m 43 years old and I too have DCIS ER+PR+ I had a lumpectomy followed by 20 rounds of radiation therapy since it’s hormonal I decided to have a full hysterectomy about a month ago as another preventative. My oncologist wanted me to take hormone therapy So I did my own research, asked questions and advocated for myself and what I found out about hormone therapy was depending on what stage, if you have clear margins, and if it’s not in your nodes and was contained hormone therapy is an option it’s not always necessary. Yes it would help prevent it from coming back but if you do your research like I did it helps you to make the best decision for your own health. I opt out on the Tamoxifen because of the side effects I read about I was post menopausal before my hysterectomy and that’s the first 5 year pill they offered me I didn’t want to take it so I tried Anastrozole and I had terrible side effects my bones were hurting so badly I couldn’t tolerate it after 2 months of taking it so my oncologist wrote me another prescription forExemestane which I haven’t taken yet but assuming that it’s basically the same thing and I’m not looking forward to the side effects that I know I’ll get it’s a hard decision to make when it comes to hormone therapy I don’t want to have to go through this again down the road but I also don’t want to feel like crap everyday either I’m weighing out the pros and cons of this and right now my quality of life is more important now if my cancer were in a bigger stage and I felt that I NEEDED to take it to survive I would have no other choice but to take it my suggestion to you is do your research, ask questions, write everything down, advocate for yourself, pray on it, and you do what you think is best for you because I found out quickly that I needed to advocate for myself and do my own research to make the best decisions for myself. I hope my journey can help you in some way, God bless you 🙏💕
