Should I have sentinel lymph node biopsy with early stage breast cancer?

I have a 9mm idc stage 1, grade 1, 63 years old, found on mammogram. Also have done a lymph node sonogram and an mri, both of which were negative. Going for lumpectomy on May 6 and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Having 2nd thoughts about the lymph node biopsy as I am very active and currently have no shoulder or nerve pain. Not opposed to having it if necessary but have read that statistically many are done with no changes of treatment. Thoughts?

This is such an understandable concern, and many patients find themselves weighing the benefits and potential risks of sentinel lymph node biopsy. The decision about whether to proceed involves balancing important staging information that could guide treatment planning against potential side effects, and this is definitely something worth discussing thoroughly with your surgical team. They can help explain how the results might influence your specific treatment plan and address any concerns about potential impacts on your active lifestyle.

I had a biopsy for my stage 1 breast cancer and it really didn’t give me any nerve pain or discomfort afterwards.

I felt a lump in my breast. Went for mammogram and ultrasound. From those images they wanted a biopsy of my lump and axilla lymph node. Had an ultrasound guided biopsy of both. Both came back as cancer. Had my PET scan done, found something in my pectoral lymph node. That has not been biopsied. Maybe because I’m already going through chemo? I’m stage 1b category 3. As far as the axilla biopsy, I was sore for a few days but really didn’t lose any range of motion. I was able to shower and wash my hair (back when I had hair) and stuff. I didn’t have any shoulder or nerve pain. I think the sentinel is around the axilla. I’m 47 (:

Hi I am 66, stage 1, lumpectomy with removal of Sentinel lymph node. No lack of movement or arm soreness, 8 weeks later. Right after surgery yes, for about 3 weeks, they said that. On day 16 of radiation, full right breast, continued mild discomfort around nipple area. Some fatigue. I noticed I have less fatigue when I go outside and take a walk. ❤️

I'm just having a hard time getting back into living. I had no help after my lumpectomy, but I during my radiation treatments, I no friends and family came to help me or offer meals or planning on checking on me. I'm on the road to recovery with anti depressants and things to help me relax. I had the best team but my trips were long and tedious. Today I'm writing angry letters and reaching out to the millions that felt trapped by work and leave time.
