11 days agoI had ILC Er/PR + Her2 - last year and had double mastectomy, clean lymph nodes, Oncotype score indicated no chemo and at 72 no radiation needed. BRACA tests negative and was told my daughters would then be. 1 year later 46 y.o daughter was just diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer which is the most aggressive breast cancer with the harshest treatment. She can't have surgery until she has chemo. Both of our cancers were interval, meaning we found them ourselves between our annual mammograms. As a mom I'm a million times more upset about hers. Have any of you been through a similar scenario?

10 days agoFacing cancer diagnoses in the same family, especially as a parent watching a child go through treatment, brings unique challenges that many in this community understand. The worry and protective instincts that come with being a mother in this situation are completely natural, and connecting with others who've navigated similar family experiences can provide valuable perspective and support during this difficult time.

8 days agoWow so sorry you’re going this with your daughter - I can only imagine how you feel after getting through your own experience, testing for BRACA and thinking your family was safe only to be hit with this. your daughter is fortunate that you can share your experience and strength with her as she goes through this. I really missed my mom who had passed a couple of years before I was diagnosed with BC.

2 days agoVery sorry to read your story. It must be hard as a mom. My 40y/o niece had cancer before me. Tested negative for BRCA. then when I got breast cancer a few years later I went to same oncologist. He tested me for more genetic issues. He found Rad 51c. Better known for ovarian cancer but still increased breast cancer risk. Then my sister (nieces mom) also tested positive for rsd51c. So maybe you should ask for more generic testing beyond BRCA.

2 days agoThanks, I had a full panel that didn't show any variant. She has had a full genetic panel done and it showed a variant with possible predictive colon, uterine cancer. So they will be looking at that after her treatment for breast cancer.

2 days agoAlthough it’s hard to see those results you both can feel confident moving forward knowing you did and are doing as much as possible to get and stay healthy. Mental calmness and confidence goes a long way in this fight!
