Receiving a DCIS diagnosis and going through surgery can feel overwhelming, and it's completely natural to feel nervous about what comes next. Many people in this community have walked a similar path and found that connecting with others who understand can be incredibly helpful. Consider reaching out to your medical team with any questions about your treatment plan - they're there to guide you through each step and can provide clarity about what to expect moving forward.

Hi Patricia, I also had DCIS stage zero had a lumpectomy and have had 13 of 20 radiations with no side effects to date Have refused the blocker and will monitor carefully every six months. If another one comes, I will have a double mastectomy and I will not go back on that decision.

I also had DCIS diagnosed last summer. I had a lumpectomy for atypical lobular hyperplasia and the pathology came back with DCIS, intermediate grade. I was feeling what u are feeling, maybe worse. I couldn’t even hear what the doctors were saying. Went in one ear and out the other. My daughter came with me to a follow up. The oncologist discussed my prognosis which was good, with radiation and anti estrogen i had a 97% likelihood of living at least 10 years, beyond 10 yrs was almost as good. My daughter said”if i had cancer and heard that i would be jumping for joy!” I slowly calmed down and I did 4 weeks of radiation and am taking an aromatase inhibitor. I had some dermatitis with the radiation and have some side effects from the pills but i can live with them. I will never feel immortal again but i feel pretty safe. Give yourself time and lean on whoever you have. This is survivable.

Hi KB What stage was your DCIS? Mine was 0 but high grade. Now on 17 radiations no side effects-3 to go. Still fighting taking Tamoxofin because of side effects so going to wait till the 6 month Mammogram on December 10th.

Great. My DNA was negative also. I have asked for 4 weeks not 5. I want to protect my lung on that side with environmental COPD. I have to meet with a surgeon for my stage 3 henia hernia second surgery. By the first week of July we should know our plan. I did have to seek a second Hematology Oncology doctor with MDS knowledge and a new Breast cancer radiologist.

Sorry to hear about your condition. My cancer was delayed by my insurance 1.5 years. I have had surgery and am considering radiation. With talking with people here you will find encouragement and prayers for you and your husband. God bless you.

Hi Patricia, I was diagnosed with DCIS stage 0. Had a lumpectomy 16 days ago and upgraded to stage 1. Scheduled for 10 radiation treatments. My issue is I was accumulating fluid in my breast and it was drained on Tuesday but this evening I noticed it is happening again. I was healing well until the fluid buildup, not painful but so uncomfortable.

Hi Ladies Just had 17 of 20 radiation’s for DCIS stage 0 Her positive . Only from the last 2 radiations Is where I went pink and a little dermatitis - the last 3- sessions on monday -tues- wed- they say are a smaller concentrated area called a boost and targeted on the surgery area only not the entire breast . To date have had zero fatigue so am pleased about that.in fact I have had more energy than before in a lot of ways. Still refusing that nasty tamoxifin - unless you all can convince me otherwise. Either way, even if I did decide to give it a try, I will not do it until after my six month mammogram which is on December 10. As I am planning a trip to Europe and I do not want to either not go or go feeling awful because of a little pill . I am quite prepared to have a double mastectomy. Should anything show up in my six month mammogram.

Venus thanks for sharing. Sometimes I get periods of fear. How long has it been since treatment? How is your energy? I've started listening to KLOVE on my radio. It's probably good no one hears me making a loud noise while I drive. LOL Karen, at my church, and I may start our radiation on July 8th, if my henia hernia surgery delays on July 1st. Can I include your name this Sunday on our church prayer list? They are small but praying is very important.

2 radiation treatments left for me. Will be ringing the bell on Tuesday. The treatments aren't that bad. I have a rash, but other than that, the doctor says my skin looks great. Have a good lotion regimen and stay hydrated.
