Why can't I eat after total gastrectomy? Food feels stuck

This is a question to the overall community but first I want to provide some context. And please forgive me if it is a little long. I was diagnosed with Gastric Cancer April 2025 and also Iwas able to move to soft diet. since then my treatment was chemo, then surgery with a total gastrectomy, and then another round of chemo. Following surgery I started with a liquid diet after a couple days I was able to move toast diet and then gradually a little more substantial diet. As part of that process I would have times where I would start eating and then have to stop because it was like a valve closed and I couldn't ingest anything, this usually would take place after a couple of bites. I would regurgitate a little food but mostly phlegm. Things got better and that stopped for while. Over the last month this has resumed. Sometimes I am able to resume eating or drinking after period of time and other times it maybe several hours before I can ingest anything including liquids. I have seen where others say they get nauseous after eating, but I am hesitant to say I am nauseous. Now to My overall question is if anyone else is experiencing this and have you identified any triggers and things you have done to try and resolve this.

Has anyone had experience with Hi-PEC treatment for gastric cancer?

I was diagnosed with gastric cancer in December 2025. I have been on chemotherapy and immunotherapy and have had seven rounds. I am going to be in a clinical trial for Hi-PEC. Anyone else had Hi-PEC?

Has anyone experienced liver lesions after gastric cancer remission?

Hi all. I have diffuse gastric adenocarcinoma. (Signet ring cell). I had a total gastrectomy last year. I was told it was early stage cancer and that im in remission. Now im being told that I need a liver MRI as they had seen a solid lesion during a scan, last year. Anyone else in this type of situation?

Has anyone dealt with linitis plastica stomach cancer?

I was given the medication gabapentin for my hiccups it helps, not only for my hiccups, but my nerves as well

Has anyone tried Imfinzi immunotherapy after gastric cancer surgery?

Good morning, I have recently finished my last Chemotherapy treatment after a total Gastrectomy. My Oncologist has brought up adding in immunotherapy utilizing Imfinzi. Is anyone familiar with Imfinzi and has anyone gone through treatment with Imfinzi? Thank you in advance for any information you provide.

What treatment options exist for elderly stomach cancer patients besides chemo?

My mother is in her 90’s and diagnosed in October with stomach cancer. Her first round of immunotherapy didn’t go well. Is anyone aware of any other treatment other than chemo? She is very frail and very sensitive to most medications.

How bad are chemo side effects with radiation for stomach cancer?

Just finished the 6th round of chemo I also get a big bolas dose and a chemo pump that gives me another 46 hours of chemo at home . This round was rough almost as bad as my first dose . Nausea , bad diarrhea , my toes won’t stay warm . I start radiation in about 2 weeks along with my chemo I’m a little scared to have worse symptoms adding the radiation because my cancer is in my stomach that’s where it will all be pin pointed for treatment . I’m hoping a long nap and my nausea meds will kick in soon . Thanks for listening .💜💜

How to stop painful hiccups during chemo treatment?

I recently started up chemo for gastric adenocarcinoma. I have a question does anyone get painful hiccups that are hard to get rid of. If so how are ways to deal with this. Stay strong God bless and keep fighting.
