What happens after staying clear on NMIBC cystoscopies post-GEMDOCE?

I had NMIBC diagnosed in January 2025. I had two surgeries to remove the cancer, followed by six weeks of GEMDOCE (gemcitabine followed by docetaxel) held in the bladder for 90 minutes each. I had a series of six treatments, weekly, then one year of the same, replaced by a cystoscopy in September and one upcoming this July. I was clear from the surgery, and cystoscopies have shown that I remain clear. Aside from the typical stressors, I found that the GEMDOCE treatment surprisingly gave me many post treatment symptoms, such as “chemo brain”, catching things that are “going around”, and fatigue. I also noticed a reduction in skin collagen and skin sensitivity to cosmetics. I have my next cystoscopy in July. I have stayed clear so far, and hope to be clear at this cystoscopy. I am not sure what happens next if I am clear, or if I am not.

Surveillance schedules after clear cystoscopies typically follow established guidelines that your medical team will discuss with you, and many patients find it helpful to ask their doctor about the specific timeline and what to expect at upcoming appointments. The side effects you've experienced from GEMDOCE are important to share with your healthcare team, as they can provide guidance on managing these symptoms and monitoring your overall health moving forward.
