Hello to all I was diagnosed in November With Thyroid Carcinoma, Getting a complete removal of Thyroid also have a lump under my Clavicle and on my jugular vain which are to be removed. Has not hit me yet Surgery is on Dec 16. For some reason I am at odds not believing what is going on. Not scared or in shock at this time. Is this a normal feeling.

Feeling disconnected or like the diagnosis hasn't fully "hit" yet is actually quite common when facing a cancer diagnosis - many people experience this kind of emotional distancing as their mind processes such significant news. This response can be your body's way of protecting you while you prepare for the journey ahead, and there's no "right" way to feel during this time.

Hi Jose. I totally relate to the disconnected feeling u are having. It all happened so fast that I didn't really have time to process it. I just understood that the cyst/tumor needed to be removed and then ill be ok. Unfortunately that's not how it happened. So with time, I've struggled with all the possible emotions. And every day I remind myself to be positive and grateful for my blessings. Gotta remain hopeful and optimistic. God Bless you on ur journey.

Hope your surgery went well and recovering very well . I think mine was about the same time of the year . The surgeon offered me to get it done after the holidays the following year as he wants me to enjoy the season but I insisted to get it done if he had time even before Thanksgiving which he did . While waiting to get seen by him , I read up and prepared myself before I saw him so that if he had any cancelations or openings that I could get scheduled . I eliminated salts on my diet as soon as I was referred to the surgeon and waiting for my appointment . God was on my side as it was done before Thanksgiving . Unfortunately , they have to take a lymph node that was positive for ca and they had taken a parathyroid gland as well either by mistake or too close proximity to the thyroid gland . They have to call another surgeon to rescue mine . He was a young doctor ( I should have checked credentials) , my mistake as experienced makes perfect . I had radiation in early January after November surgery and had no side effects rather than my teeth gets cavities often no matter how aggressive I get with my dental hygiene . I have dental cleaning done regularly but one time only after 3 months I had 9 cavities . Your body will adjust and let you know what is going on with your tsh level . You will feel it and I usually call my endocrinologist and the labs ordered to check it and then my tirosint gets adjusted . Take care and praying for you . Have a blessed New Year !

Thank u for sharing ur experience Liwanag. I am scheduled for a 2nd surgery tomorrow to remove 1cm nodule that has jumped onto my clavicle area. We begin radiation a couple of weeks after. Im glad to hear ur side effects were minimal. But cavities can be so painful too!😬 Were u able to go back to work after radiation? If so, how soon?
