Methotrexate for NHL brain protection - experiences and side effects?

Hi, I’m Denise. My husband, Steve was diagnosed with NHL spread to bone marrow and has liver disease from statins. He is doing the r chop chemo. He’s had 4 round out of six. The doctor told us there is a 10% chance of getting brain cancer and offered up another chemotherapy called Methotrexate. Does anyone have any first hand experience with Methotrexate ? He would be hospitalizations for 3-4 days. The side effects sound awful and I am nervous about this next step. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 💕

Many people in this community have shared experiences with methotrexate as CNS prophylaxis, and it's completely understandable to feel nervous about adding another treatment with potential side effects. The decision about CNS prophylaxis involves weighing the prevention benefits against treatment burden, and community members often find it helpful to discuss their experiences with both the hospitalization process and managing side effects. Consider bringing specific questions about symptom management and what to expect during the hospital stays to your next appointment, as the medical team can provide strategies to help make the experience more manageable.
