Will a diuretic help with swelling after chemotherapy?

I finished my last chemo treatment 4 weeks ago. Radiation will start next week. I’ve had swelling of my ankles and feet for 3 weeks now. I’ve been elevating my legs as often as possible as recommended. Will a diuretic help?

Post-chemotherapy swelling can be concerning, and it's great that leg elevation is being used as a management strategy. A healthcare provider would be the best person to evaluate whether a diuretic or other treatment options might be appropriate, as they can consider the full medical picture and determine the underlying cause of the swelling. Many others in this community have likely experienced similar post-treatment effects, so hopefully some members can share their experiences and what helped them during recovery.

Hello, Radiation, chemo, the meds, and hydration if you were given that will all make you swell up. I'm not sure of a diuretic as I didn't use anything. I did go for lymphatic massage, though. Ask your team and do some research. All the best, and I will be praying 🙏 for you.

You can try compression stockings also. Be sure to stay hydrated and watch salt intake. Diuretics can impair kidney function over time

Yes, I also used compression socks. I still use it once in a while. I also use the compression sleeve.

I want to also say be careful of the diuretic and it’s effects on your kidneys. The treatment is difficult on them too. Hydrate with electrolytes if needed, compression socks, lymphatic massage if you can get it. It will get better.

A pair of compression stockings. I have been wearing them for a year now and now they come in all colors even prints. They help my neuropathy.

If you are planning on having reconstructive surgery forget about radiation it destroys your tissue. I hope that you avoid this
