Where to find affordable post-surgery bras after double mastectomy?

Just had a thyroidectomy for large masses in December. They found cancer in all 4 despite 6 biopsies coming back negative. Now I just got diagnosed with DCIS unrelated to other cancer. I feel betrayed by my body. Double mastectomy scheduled June 30. Any advice on where to find good post surgical wear at a reasonable price?

Many community members have found good options for post-surgical bras at places like Amazon, Target, and specialty medical supply stores, with some insurance plans covering mastectomy bras when prescribed by a doctor. It's worth checking with the hospital's patient navigator or breast care coordinator too, as they often have resources and recommendations for affordable post-surgery garments that other patients have used successfully.

Michelle first I’m so sorry that you have to face this. I too had to have a lumpectomy last June and it’s scary to navigate. I will say that during the time before my lumpectomy I had a wonderful breast cancer counselor who without her help I would have felt more lost than I already was. She gave me resources such as because I am on Medicaid I was able to apply for a grant for financial help, and also a written prescription for not only one but 2 bras from a local cancer boutique. I was able to go to the boutique and work with the nicest lady who catered to my specific needs in a bra. My insurance covered 2 bras I chose 2 that close in the front of course, one Velcro and one latch hook bra. She also gave me a pad that could be inserted into the side of the bra that my lumpectomy would be on. This boutique had all the needs a woman would need while fighting cancer, bras, wigs, padding, inserts etc. I would ask your oncology team if this is an option. Also after surgery you go home wearing one and I believe that the hospital gave me a second one to go home with so that while one was being washed I had another one. I hope this helps. I will keep you in my prayers, God bless you during this difficult time 🙏🩷
