Should I have removed both breasts instead?

I was diagnosed in May, DCIS in situ grade 3, Er/Pr +necrosis and comedo. 9 mm tumor, I opted for single mastectomy. I had surgery in June. From day one after surgery I have regretted not having both breasts removed. I have a heart issue that will not allow me to take the recommended medication hormone blocker. So no treatment afterwards. I’m struggling with higher risk of return now and also the incredible discomfort of being lopsided. The bras, the prosthetic, clothes it’s all so uncomfortable and annoying. I have an appointment on 9/30 to speak to surgeon on having left breast removal and esthetic closure and revision on right to go flat. I’m 70 years old. Anyone one else feeling similar?

Many people in this community have faced similar difficult decisions about bilateral mastectomy, especially when dealing with the physical discomfort and emotional challenges that can come with being asymmetrical. The feelings about reconsidering surgical choices are completely valid, and it sounds like the upcoming appointment will provide valuable guidance about options moving forward. Others here have shared experiences about going flat and finding comfort in that choice, so hopefully connecting with this supportive community can offer additional perspectives as this important decision is considered.
