Should I be concerned about a new painful area after breast cancer treatment?

Hi, all! I haven’t posted in a while. Right above breast lumpectomy has been 6 months to the day (I realize now as I type this!) and rad tx completed about two and half months ago for IDC. A few days ago, I noticed a painful area under my right breast. I was told that lumps aren’t usually painful (the other one wasn’t). Is this something that I should worry about again? Should I ask for a mammogram sooner than the one I’m supposed to have 6months post rad tx?

It's completely understandable to feel concerned about new symptoms after treatment, especially when they feel different from what you experienced before. While painful areas can have many causes after radiation therapy, including normal healing changes, any new symptoms deserve attention from your medical team. Consider reaching out to your oncologist or care team to discuss this new pain - they know your specific situation best and can help determine whether earlier imaging or an examination would be appropriate. Many others in this community have navigated similar concerns during their recovery journey, so please know you're not alone in feeling watchful about changes in your body.

If you have a concern, follow your gut instinct. Even if it ends up being nothing, at least it's for your peace of mind. Doctors are not always right. Best of luck!

If you are questioning it, I say definitely go in. Better to get it checked .

I experienced something similar and discussed it with my oncologist. Ended up having an ultrasound. Definitely bring it up and get it checked out.

My tumor is painful with a slight squeeze when feeling for it. Otherwise no.

My lump was very painful and pulsated while I was on my period. I thought it was just a cyst bc cancer lumps weren’t supposed to be painful, took me three months to get it checked out bc of that.
