I have employer-based health insurance from a 38-year job. I retired and moved away from the state where I worked. A year later I was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. I was underinsured in my new state and have had to commute several times to my old state to be treated. I had a good balance with my spending and income this time last year. But now, cancer treatment is kicking my finances in the butt! The problem is that I am middle class and do not qualify for any financial aid! Does anyone know of a charity for cancer patients to help with housing and travel expenses for the middle class? I am constantly dipping into my dwindling savings account. It's so stressful!

There are several organizations that specifically help middle-class cancer patients with travel and housing expenses, including the American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program, CancerCare's financial assistance, and the National Cancer Institute's database of financial resources. Many of these programs have income limits that extend into middle-class ranges, and some hospital social workers can connect patients with lesser-known local charities and grants that might be available in your area.
