Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Journey

Started out with bloody discharge in right breast. Went in for a mammogram and they decided to check both. After the ultrasound, a biopsy was done on each breast. Left breast came back with invasive ductual carcinoma. Right breast was fine. Surgeon wanted a mri because I can’t believe the right was ok as I still have a bloody discharge. MRI showed a non mass enhancement on the left. Had a MRI guided biopsy. Now they found invasive lobular carcinoma and LCIS. I am thinking DMX with reconstruction. Need to change surgeon because they do not have a plastic surgeon. Original diagnosis date was April 22. My chest is aching. I just want this done. Will be reaching out to my original breast center. They are two hours away but I know they will take care of me.

Navigating multiple biopsies and changing diagnoses can feel overwhelming, and it's completely understandable to want to move forward with a care team that feels right. Traveling two hours for treatment might seem daunting, but having confidence in your medical team and knowing they have the resources you need can make a significant difference in your peace of mind. Many patients in this community have faced similar decisions about changing providers or traveling for specialized care, and you're not alone in wanting comprehensive treatment options all in one place.

Speaking from experience can you find a surgeon closer? I travel 4.5 hours for treatment and it’s wearing on me!

I plan on doing my treatments, whatever that may be, nearby. Just the surgery will be a travel.

Oh that non mass enhancement brings back bad memories. That is exactly what I had which turned out to be invasive lobular carcinoma in the left breast. Right breast was “normal”. Had a lumpectomy first on April 12th to remove it but when margins were too close we opted for a double mastectomy. So glad we did since the pathology after the mastectomy showed small tumor of Lobular carcinoma in SITU in the right breast so that would have eventually turned on me. So glad you had the MRI to confirm what you suspected.

The last week of April I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and 2nd reoccurring of breast cancer in same right breast. So many problems with diabetes that they are holding off on cancer surgery. Just so stressed out.

I agree with a couple of you - get your doctors, surgeon and treatments as close to home as possible. You will not believe how often you are seeing them and driving to appointments and asking someone to take you, it’s a lot to ask others to take off work or etc. all of mine is 10 from my home and it sure helped.
