Port placement is a common step in treatment that helps make receiving care more comfortable. Many in this community have found it helpful to prepare some comfortable clothes for afterward and arrange for someone to drive home. Wishing you a smooth procedure and hoping others here will share their experiences to help you feel more prepared.

6 months agoHello Melissa I have a port. No problems. It is easy to administer the chemo plus taking blood. I have had my port for 3 years. It does not hurt. My first port was back in 2016. It was removed in the surgeon office. It's not painful. You are awake. Five years later, I got breast cancer and got the port. I am very happy with it. The port must be flushed every 3 months or so. I hope you have a good experience. 👍

6 months agoI had a port for around 18 months. I had it removed and neither procedure had any difficulties. It is important to keep that area clean.

6 months agoI got my port last Tuesday. I’m having problems with itching. I guess that’s because it is healing. Also I have problems with my bra strap rubbing against the incision. I stopped wearing a bra. Guess I need to get some strapless bras.

6 months agoDidn't have that problem. I'm flat. Sorry I can't help you! But maybe put a gauze pad under the bra strap would help.

6 months agoIngrid, I tried that and that gauze made it worse. Thanks for the idea.
