a year agoDoes anyone know of a site that has reasonable UV protective clothing. I will be finishing up radiation right before a trip that we had planned a year ago and it’s a sunny state. Now I don’t know what clothing to wear for radiation healing, will I be able to wear a bra, can I be in the sun! What’s the BEST cream to apply? I’m a natural red head and have fair skin so the radiation concerns me as far as how my skin reacts. I burn easily in the sun!! So many questions!!!!!!

Finding good UV protection after radiation treatment is definitely important, especially with fair skin that burns easily. Many cancer patients find success with UPF-rated clothing from companies like Coolibar, Sun Protective Clothing Company, or even some options at regular retailers. For post-radiation skin care and sun exposure guidelines, it's best to check with the radiation oncology team since recommendations can vary based on individual treatment. The community here has shared great experiences with various protective clothing brands and post-treatment skincare routines, so hopefully others will chime in with their tried-and-true recommendations for the upcoming trip.

6 months agoPatagonia is wonderful. Any fishing retailer such as Bass Pro Shop. I love kids mineral sunscreen from Blue Lizard but you could use any brand

6 months agoTheresa, I saw the oncologist for radiation yesterday and I go for mapping next week, as this treatment is advised for my triple negative BRCA 2 cancer that had metastasized to one node as necrotic. I’m also on a PARP inhibitor that I will stop during radiation. Without asking, he prescribed a special mono steroid cream to help prevent some burning. In regards to UV shirts, I have gotten some on sale, on the Columbia site but a place like Gabes will often have some close outs that include Columbia brands. As a long term 40+ year ICU RN, I am anxious about starting the treatments too, especially because I’m post a full year of aggressive chemo, with a cancer initially that was completely removed in surgery with clean nodes and margins. I had saline implants and reconstruction at the time of the recommended double mastectomies, and yes, I may have untoward skin effects that may require more surgery Post radiation. As we know, cancer is sneaky and dangerous, but many treatments as options. Best wishes. 🙏
