How can I manage bone pain from Anastrozole?

Bone pain is a common side effect that many people experience with this medication, and it can really impact daily comfort. Many community members have found relief through gentle exercise, warm baths, over-the-counter pain relievers (with their doctor's approval), and discussing alternative treatment options with their oncologist if the pain becomes too difficult to manage.

I have stage lV metastatic breast cancer and I use pregabalin 50mg every 12 hrs. It works great. At first I was against taking any type of a prescription. Once I went on the Pregabalin it relieved my pain and I was able to work out and go for walks everyday. I have been on an estrogen blocker for 10 years. I know I am going to be on one for life. I also realized I need to get out and live life. I can’t put road blocks in my way.

I've been on Anastrozole since March 2025. I had Stage 1 Invasive Lobular Carcinoma. Very small tumor, 2 lymph nodes removed with no cancer spread there! Praise the Lord! This year had been tough. I'm a 65 yr old female - I feel like I'm 105 most of the time. Everything hurts. I've been having issues with my left hip and deep gluteal strain so it's very hard to walk/stand for long periods of time so that makes going for walks very hard to do. I took a 3 wk break from the pill and that seemed to help but it was also during a time when I had had an injection in my hip. So it's hard to say if the relief was from the injection or from the pill break. I meet with my medical oncologist next Tuesday so I'm going to tell her all this and see what she recommends. I've read stores on stopping the pill and then the cancer returns. I also know that blocking my estrogen for 4+ more years can't be good for my body! And if/ when I do get off the pill, does my estrogen build back up... increasing my cancer risk? This just sucks! I get this small cancer found, removed, just 5 radiation treatments so I think I'm doing so well and it's about over and now this joint/ bone pain to deal with. 😵‍💫
