6 months agoHello all your lovely ladies. Well, after a long four months I finally got a surgery date which is on June 10 I will be having a bilateral mastectomy. I’m kind of nervous and anxious at the same time any information or any kind of advice than anyone can give me After the surgery would be great. Like what I should take to the hospital what they provide how long was your Hospital stay? I want to thank you all in advance trying to stay positive because I know it’s all in God’s hands.

Having a surgery date can bring up so many emotions, and it's completely natural to feel both nervous and anxious about what's ahead. Many community members have found it helpful to prepare a hospital bag with comfortable button-up shirts, lip balm, phone charger, and any personal comfort items, while hospital stays typically range from outpatient to a few days depending on the type of reconstruction chosen. This community has so much wisdom to share about the recovery journey, so hopefully others will chime in with their experiences and tips to help you feel more prepared.

6 months agoI had my double mastectomy (no reconstruction) and 4 days ago. The surgery took 4 hours and I spent 2 hours in recovery because my blood pressure was too low. They fit you with a bra. I was given Tylenol, gabapentin (for nerve pain)& tramadol (opioid) a few days beforehand. To my complete surprise I did not need to take the Tramadol. I was to take the gabapentin whether I had pain or not for one month. I know it is extremely scary but I can only speak from personal experience and tell you that it was not nearly what I had it made up in my mind to be. Good luck and I'll be sending positive vibes and prayers your way.

6 months agoHope your surgery went well. Gabapentin helped me with my one mastectomy. My surgery was in March. I had trouble with an expander and it was taken out 2 weeks ago. I am trying to decide about Radiation because 2 lympnods had cancer. Getting your energy back was my big issue. Take care of yourself in the small ways.

5 months agoMy experience was much like Karen’s. No Gabapentin for me though. It was kinda easy. The drains were a nuisance, but I got through it.
