6 months agoHi i am 2 treatments away from my THCP breast cancer journey. I met with my surgeon and agreed that I will be going for for a double mastectomy. I am going to meet with my Oncologist Plastic surgeon soon. I am 68 years old and I am undecided weather I will go for implants or for DIEP flat. Can anyone tell me how either procedure went for you. I need to hear positive stories please. Thank you.

What a significant milestone to be nearing the end of your treatments and moving forward with this important decision. Many community members have shared experiences with both reconstruction options and going flat, and each person's journey and recovery can be quite different based on individual factors. Connecting with others who have walked similar paths can provide valuable insights as you prepare for your consultation with the plastic surgeon, who can help guide you through the specifics of each option based on your unique situation.

6 months agoI just had a double with DIEP flap. I'm satisfied with the result. The 4 drains are a bit of a challenge but all 4 were gone in 2 weeks.

5 months agoHello, I was on the list for a DIEP with bilateral masectomy and a lift on the other breast. But after the masectomy on June 12th and the pain I'm still experiencing, I called my surgeon and said no to the DIEP. Although that's what I truly want. I love the idea of your own skin being used. Bur, I'm not willing to have a longer recovery, with more pain in my abdomen and not be able to be independent. I don't want anyone to have to fully take care of me. I am still torn about it, really. But not willing to go through more pain for a longer time. The DIEP is a tummy tuck, basically. Although I would absolutely love one after having children. Everyone heals differently and takes pain differently. I'm usually pretty strong and tolerate pain well. But I just think for me, I'm worn out since 08/2021. It's a lot. Cancer treatment rook a roll on me back then. Be strong all of you brave and amazing women! ♥️
