10 months agoDo cold caps really help with hair loss?
Accepted Answer
Cold caps, also known as scalp cooling systems, have shown promise in helping some people keep more of their hair during chemotherapy, though results can vary from person to person. Many in the breast cancer community have shared their experiences with cold caps, so connecting with others who've tried them might give helpful insights into what to expect and whether they could be a good fit for your treatment plan.

6 months agoYes, I believe they do. I’m on treatment #6 of chemo and have been using Penguin Cold Capping system. I have not had any significant hair loss. There is another young lady using same system and her hair is past her waist and she too is in week 6 of chemo. But you have to use it starting day one of treatment! I highly recommend Penguin…not cheap, but they provide all you need in the kit with personalized support. Some insurance will pay for it. Good Luck!

6 months agoHonestly, it probably depends on your chemo dosage and drug therapies. 5 FU doesn’t generally cause hair loss, other than some thinning but harsher meds for most aggressive cancers like Adriamycin/Cytoxan combo in high doses more frequently is a given no matter what you try to prevent it, I was told.

6 months agoI have TNBC which is pretty aggressive and therefore chemo is as well. A friend I have met during treatment has already had 4 treatments of red devil and still has hair past her waist. Some thinning but not noticeable… she is also using the Penguin Cold Cap system. It is a personal choice but so far, I’m pretty happy.

6 months agoI have TNBC, stage 1. Doing AC/T. The second treatment if AC was last week, with treatment every 2 weeks. I'm using the Arctic Cold cap and have had more hair loss than I expected. Very expensive to use this. I was told by the company to expect 65% hair loss and growth will occur quicker after treatment stops. I guess we will see. I'm hoping I don't lose much more in my next treatments.

6 months agoHi, I am on my 2nd chemo treatment and using the Paxman Cooling Cap, I have had some hair thinning but still looks good overall. I qualified for a grant thru the hospital to get the cap, I hear they are expensive, so definitely look or research financial aid.
