What are my options when rectal cancer treatment leaves residual tumor?

After 6 months of post treatment, I still have a residual tumor in my rectum. Next steps will depend on the tumor board. It will be chemo or immunotherapy and/or an APR. That's resecting the bowel and having a permanent colostomy.

I am having Colostomy surgery otn this Friday, 1-23. Chickened out on the first surgery date, just didn't feel right. However my tumor is mostly external on the rectum/sphincter so the pressure and pain from stool as it backs up is exquisite. My surgical oncologist is afraid I will develop an infection or bowel blockage so I finally agreed to undergo what will most likely be a permanent colostomy. If they are able to do surgery to remove the tumor that whole area will have to be resected, no more rectum or sphincter. Why couldn't the cancer be in the colon so it could be removed easier? Nothing is ever easy for me.
