How do you cope with rectal cancer treatment when you're fighting alone?

My name is Rochelle and I was just diagnosed with Rectal Cancer, Stage 2 end of July. Diapers have become the norm because the mass is primarily external on the sphincter, oh joy. Pain is out of control as I am a long time pain patient with CRPS, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, a neuropathic rare pain disease. I can no longer sit, walking and standing cause exquisite pressure and pain. When driven to a doc appointment I have to lay on my side in back seat, can no longer even go to the store. I bought a twin bed and put it cin my living room, didn't want to be trapped in my bedroom, added a three inch mattress topper and a bed rail to help get on and off the bed Is there anyone fighting this alone? I am. Was told oral chemo first then IV chemo, five days a week for six weeks plus radiation at same time. Am terrified to deal with side effects of both plus my copays. Does anyone know of resources to help with copays? Hoping to connect with others in same situation. I live in SoCal.

Fighting cancer treatment alone can feel overwhelming, but this community has many members who understand that journey and the unique challenges it brings. Many people here have found financial assistance programs through pharmaceutical companies, cancer centers, and organizations like CancerCare or the Patient Advocate Foundation that help with treatment copays - reaching out to a hospital social worker can often connect you with local resources in Southern California. This community is here to offer support and share experiences navigating similar treatment paths, so please continue to share updates and questions as you move forward.

I don't know if you have a Direction Homes there but they will help you get the resources you need. Utilize the social worker at the oncologist office. They will also get you some resources.

Best to you Rochelle. I also have colorectal cancer. 3 tumors removed in 2023, and presently will go to surgery for an isolated growth. Looks like I will depend on a bag the rest of my life. Sending good thoughts your way

Thank you Raymond. Everything is so complicated when it comes to my care, just getting a PET Scan and MRI have taken over two months. I have no venous access and told my insurance group, the Referral dept and the doctor I must have my port accessed. It's #4 and the first was implanted due to multiple staph/MRSA right hand infections and lack of venous access. Have had RN supervisors who use ultrasound to find veins who just can't get in as if I personally caused this. I finally got the orders for both scan and MRI for my port to be accessed and a sedative be given for the MRI as I cannot lay flat in my back for the MRI it is too painful. Next available scan at Lima Linda is not until Oct 23, this is bordering on ridiculous I wish you well and am sorry you have an unwanted growth back.

Yes...4th stage colorectal. I chose "concierge medicine" with my husband here in sussex county delaware. As we both had health issues in the past. We thought it prudent. What a fucking mistake. After both having symptoms vague and without using the right words, we trusted him...well Segway to today, my husband passed June 14th 2023 from stage four b lung cancer...beebes head oncology would have killed him in three months...U of P kept him alive for a year and a half. A valuable year and a half that we were able to spend together. I was told my symptoms were...you're just getting old...I have stage four colorectal cancer. After developing a lump months later...the hemoiroid i was diagnosed with was misdiagnosed by another "trusted resource" of Dr charles stanislov...robbing me of valuable time....all connected to Beebe hospital. The hemoroid was a tumor hanging out of me...any first year medical student can tell the difference between the two...but not this "doctor". I treated the "hemoroid for three months. Then a lump appears in my groin. Stanislav turned white...I was then sent to Beebe where they misdiagnosed the tissue from the lump. But let's go back two years. I went to A Dr Abbud for my colonoscopy as Stanislavs connection at Beebe could not see me for a year. I did my due diligence. So Abbud it was....the results you ask? I got a phone call from stanislav confirming I did not have diverticulousis ( confirmed that I have it by university of penn),two pollups removed and nothing else. My colon cancer has been in my body from 2 to 5 years. By the way stanislav...tested me for diverticulosus 5 years ago and it was positive...so did he find the results of the colonoscopy odd...not one bit...it went in my file and forgotten...concierge my ass. No bells and whistles went off in my concierge doctors head. NOPE. So let's jump forward abit...the results of the lump as per beebe...goblet cell tumor...also misdiagnosed ... Dr Abbud..worthless...Stanislav worthless...Beebe worthless and for this my husband and I paid roughly 2500.00 each that's $5000 a year since we moved to milton delaware in 2018. The years may be off...time gets ahead of you. I lost valuable time with my husband....I now get to light a candle to honor this magnificent man...i will lose valuable time with my friends and my husbands family...I am now being treated at University of Pennsylvania. Oh by the way stanislav lost me my long term healthcare by writing up a report too late... I stopped my payments to concierge medicine....just too late. Do not waste your money...do not trust any hospital but university hospitals I drive two hours for good care and treatment..its worth it. As for diapers...yes some times but my treatment has allowed me to wear regular underwear again the pain is uncomfortable but keep fighting on. Time with whom you love is all we have...its thevtouch the feel of connection. I have chosen not to have the final operation. So my body my choice. They are working with me. There are reasons for me which will make this a novel...so maybe another time. Dont give up the fight. Question everything. Be A Shirley McClain in a world of sheep. The fight is worth it. I forgot that. Never again.

Are you on Medicare? There are resources if you are not and are retail going directly to the drug companies will get results .your patient advocate at your hospital can help.

@anonymous user, that is exactly where mine is located, thus the need for diapers. I can't tell if it's growing or what is still inside is trying to also come thru the rectum and the pain and pressure are exquisite. Plus my qqqfentanyl patch has not come in yet. Am hoping the increased dose works as the 25 mcg then 50 mcg patch did nothing. The mass affects the whole body, plus the skin is so sensitive in that area the mass is stretching the skin in the rectum and VJJ area. The oxy alone just isn't cutting it. I have been applying Zinc Oxide to protect the sensitive skin, It's like the mass is in the worst possible spot possible. I can 100% identify with your pain and discomfort. Do you think the Ivermectin is reducing your mass,? I have pictures of the mass I have named George but don't think it's appropriate to post for all to see even though you can't tell where it's located

@anonymous user, my oncologist writes for my pain meds, but it's not enough. I had my primary doc who examined my mass twice tell me it's just hemmhroids even the surgeon who was going to do a hemmhroidectomy tell me it's hemmhroids , hah. My oncology group has said they can't start chemo or radiation until I get the PET Scan so they can see if it's spread. Had two CT scans when in emergency dept show it was stage II. Surgeon wound up doing a biopsy instead of procedures planned. I have not seen anyone with same cancer who was told they had to undergo chemo five days a week for six weeks along with radiation same time, five days a week for six weeks, seems like that dosing will overpower my body. Plus I have CKD, my kidneys only function at 50% which will affect the chemo dose. My DNA has shown several chemo drugs I can't take due to the CYP2D6 gene. I bought green tea which is supposed to kill cancer and yesterday ordered Dandelion Root that is supposed to kill colorectal cancer. Time will tell. I am so tired of fighting for care, fighting to get needed scans, I don't feel good, am constantly running a temp which without cancer can wear a person down. Fighting cancer alone brings it's own set of problems.

Direction Homes is like area for aging. This is what's it's called here in Ohio. I don't know what state programs you have but I would research your area and see what resources are out there. I have Medicaid now because I'm not working. Good luck

Google IVERMECTIN. I take 12 mg a day. I order mine through Family pharmacy in boca raton Florida. It is used on farm animals to get rid of parasites. Humans are using it for cancer treatment- Doctors will not talk about it.

Research IVERMECTIN. A doctor will never discuss it because it is not approved as a cancer treatment. Testimony after testimony are reporting results that are positive in cancer treatment. It’s reported to be very safe . I have NO side effects at all!
