How do I manage side effects from anastrozole?

I have hormone-positive breast cancer and have completed surgery. My doctor recently started me on anastrozole as part of my ongoing treatment. I'm learning that this hormone blocker helps reduce the risk of my cancer returning by stopping estrogen production in my body. My doctor mentioned some possible side effects like hot flashes, joint pain, and bone changes, and said they'll be monitoring my bone health while I'm on this medication. I'd love to connect with others who have been through something similar and hear about your experiences. • How did you manage the day-to-day side effects from hormone therapy? • What do you wish you had known when starting this type of treatment?

Managing side effects from hormone therapy can feel overwhelming at first, but many community members have found helpful strategies through trial and error. Consider keeping a symptom diary to track patterns and discuss specific management approaches with your healthcare team, as they may have recommendations for everything from joint pain relief to bone health supplements that could make a real difference in your daily comfort.

I’m 62. I’ve been taking it for a month. I take Claritin twice daily it helps me with bone and joint pain. I take anastrozole at bedtime with magnesium glycinate. I do notice more fatigue than usual.
