3 months agoI'm in my 3rd round of chemo. I have stage2 Er+/PR+/ and HER2+. (Triple positive) , has anyone had 1 boob removed and did a Diep Fllap surgery and reconstruction? My Dr said if do a partial mastectomy that I wouldn't need radiation. My question is did anyone have this done? If so, can you share your experience? I'm trying to stay away from implants as in about 10 to 20 years i will need to replace them and I don't to do that as I will be in my 70's by then and feel that it will be too risky for my age at that time. And thoughts🤔

DIEP flap reconstruction can be a great option for those looking to avoid implants and the future surgeries that come with them. This procedure uses tissue from another part of the body to create natural-feeling reconstruction that typically lasts a lifetime without replacement needs. Many community members have shared positive experiences with DIEP flap surgery, though recovery time is usually longer than with implants since it involves microsurgery. Consider asking potential surgeons about their experience with DIEP procedures and connecting with others here who may have gone through similar reconstruction journeys.

3 months agoI had same diagnoses as you twice . First time I did mastectomy no radiation implant. No problems and 14 yrs and no need for replacement . Second time ( now ) did lumpectomy with radiation on my other breast . Was deemed a new occurrence . I did it because I was stage 2 no lymph node involvement , pre chemo shrunk tumor to no evidence and I didn’t want to go through reconstructive sx. I was not interested in the flap due to more invasive surgery . But there is no wrong choice .. just a choice
