a month agoHas anyone done 6 months of Herceptin instead of 12 months for hers 2 positive hormone negative stage 1 grade 3 ?
Community Member
a month agoIs this adjuvant therapy? Also is it just Herceptin or is there a mix? I haven’t heard of 6 months or 12 months duration..

a month agoI have herceptin alone every 3 weeks for a year and have heard some research that 6 months is as effective as 12 and much least cardiac problems..

a month agoTreatment duration decisions can be complex and depend on many individual factors that only your oncology team can properly evaluate. Many patients in this community have navigated similar questions about Herceptin treatment length, and connecting with others who understand HER2+ experiences can provide valuable support and perspective as you discuss options with your medical team.

a month agoI'm not getting much from my Doctor on whether I should do it or not. I feel like she just letting me hang out there.

a month agoI had 4 months of herceptin combined with Perjeta as Phesgo injections every 3 weeks. Next month I'll start Kadcyla infusions every 3 weeks that has Herceptin combined with Emtansine for 14 cycles.

a month agoI did 6 treatments of tchp as neoadjuvent before surgery. Now doing Kadcyla every 3 weeks for 14 cycles. Was originally going to be 12 but had residual micro metastasis in 4/5 lymph nodes so doing 14.

a month agoDenise T did you have any issues with the Kadcyla?
Community Member
a month agoHi Denise T, same here, I completed 5 cycles on Kadcyla and have 9 more to go. Been dealing with joint pain on both shoulders joints…

a month agoI haven’t had any so far. I was expecting some but nothing yet🤞. I am still seeing my pt and doing light focused exercises daily- no matter how tired I am. I do take gabapentin for lingering neuropathy, and plaquenil for my lupus. I had shoulder and joint pain from that prior to my bc diagnosis.

a month agoDenise T How many cycles have you completed so far?
Community Member
a month agoRam S I have completed 3. Worse side effects after 4 treatments of radiation and I only had 16 (dr wanted 33 and I said no way do he concentrated to 16 so I would agree to do it- still regret the decision and the family members and dr.s who coerced/ guilted me into doing it have a different relationship now but that’s another story).

a month agoDenise T I had 25 cycles of radiation using VMAT at MDACC and I negotiated the dosing etc so it went well. My issues are with my Oncologist (not MDACC) who wants to experiment!! I’m glad you pushed back with your radiologist though.

a month agoThankfully mines not an experimenter. She has a great plan and I am very happy with the protocols and progress. She even refers me to research to read because she knows I like to be informed 😊

a month agoI had 6 rounds of Herceptin and Perjeta as part of my neoadjuvant chemo treatments. Then had lumpectomy surgery followed by 15 rounds of targeted radiation. Then I started the 12 additional rounds of Herceptin and Perjeta every 3 weeks. I have 2 left to complete. I was HER2+, HR- and had a complete response to the chemo with no lymph node involvement. I have not really had any side effects from the H and P infusions other than occasional mild diarrhea. My joints are achy sometimes and I do have some residual peripheral neuropathy. But overall I feel great and am enjoying life. I am now exercising and eating much cleaner as well. I pray each of you find peace and satisfaction in your treatment plans and determine ways to feel great again!

a month agoI am doing six months of herceptin. Was supposed to do herceptin and perjeta. Had first phesgo shot and ended up in the hospital with a bad reaction and also the perjeta has given me diarrhea where it affects my everyday life; so doing only herceptin now. There was a study that showed that six months was just as effective as 12 months. Plus I’m nervous about what it does to your heart. I’m the same as you except I was Stage 2, grade 2.
