a year agoHow is everyone dealing with the horrible bitter taste that is now basically everything I put in my mouth? I understand it’s the “platin” drugs that are causing it. I can NOT eat fruits or vegetables or anything with artificial sweeteners. It’s hard enough to find something I can eat, now the options are dwindling.
Accepted Answer
This metallic taste challenge is unfortunately common with platinum-based chemotherapy drugs, and finding foods that are tolerable can feel overwhelming when your usual options suddenly taste awful. Many community members have found success with bland, room-temperature foods like plain crackers, rice, or pasta, while others discover that strong flavors like ginger or mint can help mask the metallic taste - though finding what works often requires patience and experimentation.

6 months agoEverything tastes like metal. It has no taste. Drinking water is like drinking cold liquid metal. I eat grits and soup. I have lost 26 pounds since the end of June. I gained 10 to 12 pounds from steroids before chemotherapy and lost like 15 pounds after 3 weeks before the next treatment. Thank goodness I'm not that small.

6 months agoEach person is different. I lived off of yogurt and watermelon. Coconut water also helped sometimes. It was day to day whether something tasted good or disgusting. My last chemo was July 8 and now I’m on my 3rd cycle of kadcyla out of 11. I can eat more now but my taste is not completely back. It will get better.

6 months agoI’m just eating everything not paying attention how does it taste. For me it’s easier if the food/drinks are room temperature or cool and soft food. Try eating more often and smaller amounts. Hang in there!
