6 months agoHaving first treatment today. Couldn't access my port. They believe it has a kink. Anyone else have this? Will I need a whole new one or can they unkink it without surgery? So glad I found this place. Only helpful information and encouragement ☺️

Port access issues can definitely be frustrating, especially on treatment day. While some port complications can be resolved with minor procedures, others may require replacement - your medical team will be able to determine the best approach after imaging or further evaluation. Many community members have navigated similar port challenges and found solutions, so hopefully others here can share their experiences to help you feel more prepared for whatever comes next.

6 months agoI had my catheter misdirected and they had to lasso it and redirect it back to the vein (edited). Fortunately it was a 15 min procedure. Hopefully you don’t need to have this replaced! Mine was a Bard power port.

6 months agoThanks for the information. Unfortunately my upper portion disconnected from the port itself so I had to have emergency removal in the middle of my first chemo session. Finishing up on Monday. Had to do IV. Going to get new port in 2 weeks. Hoping for a better outcome😊. Staying positive.

6 months ago@Denise T, may, I ask was your port placed at a hospital radiology interventionist or a stand alone facility? I am 2 years post port placement (placed at the hospital) and heard of people experiencing complications when their port was placed at stand alone facilities.

5 months agoSorry for my delayed response. My breast surgeon put mine in at the hospital. IR removed and they will be the ones replacing it. My breast surgeon is supposedly one of the best - I am on the fence….
