There is a lot of news about the significance of HER2-Low breast cancer. How do I know if my tumor is HER2-Low and does it impact my treatment?

HER2-Low breast cancer is a newer classification that describes tumors with low levels of HER2 protein expression, and this information would typically be included in pathology reports from biopsy or surgery results. This emerging category has opened up new treatment possibilities, as recent research has shown that certain targeted therapies can be effective for HER2-Low tumors, so discussing these findings with your oncology team can help determine if any new treatment options might be relevant for your specific situation.

My initial HER2- status was negative. When the deeper pathology report came back, CARIS, it indicated HER2 low. There are different drugs that work depending on the level of your status. It also helps your oncologist plan out the sequence of treatment

Your oncologist will be able to tell you this info from your pathology report. HER2-Low isn’t really new it is just that there is now a drug that works pretty good if you are HER2-Low.
