6 months agoBreast Cancer Index (BCI) test. Has anyone had the BCI test before completing 5 yeasts of endocrine therapy? I am 6 months post lumpectomy, and I did not do well on my aromatase inhibitor. The BCI test can tell me the *real* benefit of taking endocrine therapy. I want to ask my oncologist for the BCI test now.
Accepted Answer
The Breast Cancer Index (BCI) is a genomic test that helps doctors make treatment decisions for patients with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. This test looks at specific genes in tumor tissue to predict how likely the cancer is to return and whether extended hormone therapy beyond the standard 5 years might be beneficial. Many patients in this community have found it helpful to discuss BCI results with their oncology team to better understand their personalized treatment options.

6 months agoThat is new to me. (BCI) I had an Oncotype score done to tell me if chemo would benefit me. In my case chemo would not. I am going to do some research on this test.

6 months agoThe Tempus XT test should be offered to everyone BEFORE they go through 6 months of chemo. My oncologist and I could not understand why chemo did absolutely nothing for me, I was on the strongest possible regimen. After I as finished with all my treatments, I was given the Tempus XT blood test, and found out why. I have the PIK3CA mutation. Very common in HR+ her2- breast cancer. It makes chemo unlikely to work. I wish I had known before I went through 6 months of hell and damaged my body.

5 months agoSorry you had to go through with this. What's Tempus XT is it different from Oncotype DX?

5 months agoI had the Oncotype test that said I would not benefit from chemo, so I had radiation after my dmx. They are using more radiation now than chemo and your doctor should not have had you on chemo.

4 months agoI had lumpectomy and radiation in 2019. Took 5 years of endocrine therapy and test she low risk for return. Now, one year after stopping endocrine therapy, cancer returned ( first was lobular, this is invasive ductal carcinoma). While I hated taking arimidix, it would have been better than the mastectomy that I now have to get.

4 months agoSagar, both are genomic tests, but Tempus xT provides a much broader genomic profiling for personalized oncology, because it detects multiple forms of genetic changes and is designed to uncover actionable mutations. In my case, it detected the PIK3CA mutation, which keeps chemo from being effective. The Oncotype test predicts recurrence risk and chemo benefit broadly according to your score, but it will not reveal gene mutations in the cancer cells which cause poor response to chemo.
