I am almost 1.5 years past my stage 1, IDC diagnosis, initial DMX surgery, and chemotherapy treatments. My final reconstruction surgery was June 2025. I have a follow up appointment with my oncologist this week. At previous appointments , asking her about follow up scans and testing, her opinion has been she didn’t recommend them due to, my stage 1 diagnosis, and the percentage of false positives. However, the more I read about the Signatera test, the stronger I feel about wanting this test. I know she will give me pushback. Medicare will pay only if you were diagnosed at stage two or higher. . I am looking into the out-of-pocket cost/cash price for this test. Has anyone had experience with their oncologist being firm with not recommending this test and the reasons why? Did you go ahead with it and are you satisfied with your decision…. any false positive results? I want it for my peace of mind… it’s my body ….. reading it can catch molecular cancer cells 8 to 10 months prior than normal detection. I appreciate any input… thank you in advance.

The decision about additional testing like Signatera can be complex, with valid considerations on both sides regarding the benefits versus potential downsides for early-stage diagnoses. Many patients share similar feelings about wanting extra monitoring for peace of mind, even when their medical team has different recommendations based on clinical guidelines. Consider discussing openly with the oncologist about specific concerns and asking for detailed explanations of the reasoning behind the recommendations - sometimes understanding the medical perspective can help inform the decision-making process.
