3 years agoThis hair thinning part is hard. Any long term survivors checking in here? Does it come back once we get to stop the AI?
Accepted Answer
Hair changes during AI treatment can be really challenging, and it's completely understandable to have concerns about whether these effects are permanent. Many community members share that hair texture and thickness can improve after completing AI therapy, though individual experiences vary and it's worth discussing timeline expectations with your oncology team.

9 months agoI use Vitality Extracts “Hair Envy”. It worked when I had waist legnth hair so I figured why not? My hair is platinum fringes with three thin see thrus on the back. It doesn’t come over well ( now I get what the guys go thru!)🤣 I still wear my caps and wigs. Toppers ( wig for only top) are expensive but I’m almost through waiting bc I’m not wearing ski caps in 100 degree weather!😜😱🤪just grateful bc maybe I didn’t get chemo curls, but I don’t by Gods grace, have chemo brain💕

9 months ago@Judy W may I ask what kind of chemo you had?

9 months agoI never had chemo so my hair thinning is from the anastrozole. I’m just trying to find out if any of you has bought any type of partial wig, hair topper or whatever it’s called. I’ve looked on line but I guess I haven’t found the right website. My hair is silver/ gray, haven’t colored it since 2019 so I imagine it will be difficult to buy something on line if I don’t see the color next to my own hair.

9 months agoThey sell them on a place called rewig. They are $49.99, depending on how long you want it. Paula’s wigs has some but they’re expensive. You could try headcovers.com but they’re not cheap either. I just wish it would get thick enough so I could lose the caps. Wigs are too hot in summer .

9 months agoI'm on an AI and thankfully not experiencing hair thinning at the moment. I had a shaved head following chemo that caused thinning but not total loss when I started and it's been growing well. I started in Oct 2022

9 months agoMine never really came back. I mean, I have hair, but it's VERY thin and sparse. I have been MBC since 2017.

9 months agoI've been on an AI for just shy of 2 years and I am not experiencing hair loss. I did use cold capping during my chemo treatments so perhaps that is helping. I lost about 40-50% of my hair during chemo, as they advised, but I felt that it was worth it. It was thinner than normal but those who didn't know me probably wouldn't have thought I was going through chemo and I felt more like myself. I also started taking Biotin 5,000mg daily about 6 mths after my last chemo treatment and it's been 2 yrs 4 mths after last chemo treatment and my hair had grown back and is healthy. They suggested the cold capping could help new hair to come in healthy. It's hard to know exactly what is responsible but I'm glad I was financially able to participate in the cold capping study. I would like to see all insurance companies cover it.
