I had BC stage llb in 2002 treated with chemo, radiation, 5 years of AI. Mammograms every year until 2016. Dx with MBC in my bones and lymph nodes. I believe the statistics are 1 in 4 develop MBC anytime after original Dx and treatment. I wish I had been educated with that in 2002. I never had a onco score.

Thank you for sharing your journey and bringing awareness to the reality of metastatic breast cancer recurrence. Many people in similar situations have expressed feeling unprepared for this possibility, and your point about early education around recurrence statistics could help others advocate for more comprehensive discussions with their healthcare teams. The community here understands the unique challenges that come with a metastatic diagnosis, and there are many who have walked similar paths who may share their experiences and support.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I have stage 2a. I wasn’t aware of the 1-4 stat even on AIs. 🫤

15 out of 100 will have a reoccurrence…. If I am reading this correctly you have had 22 years cancer free??!! What a blessing… I hope your new journey is a success!!

I wish I had known that as well. I had an Oncotype score of 2, did the math and opted out of AI after 4 months trying 2 different ones. Standard follow up post mastectomy was manual. In hindsight I would have benefited from MRI and other imaging. I have MBC in 2 bone in sacrum and T4 and 3 lymph nodes (regional). Current therapy of Qiskali and Letrozole working.
