3 years agoHelp! I get hot flashes throughout the day and it is so uncomfortable. What are others doing to cope?
Accepted Answer
Hot flashes can be really challenging to manage, and many in the cancer community experience this discomfort. There are several strategies that people often find helpful, including layered clothing that's easy to remove, keeping cool packs or fans nearby, staying hydrated, and discussing options with your healthcare team since they may have specific recommendations based on your treatment plan.

6 months agoI use peppermint castile soap and a spray of good quality peppermint essential oil in water/aloe. It has a cooling effect 😊 I also have one of those wraps you can dunk in cold water and put on neck. Holding wrist under cold water can also help lower temp. My infusion RN said if hot flashes get really bad Dr. can prescribe meds.

6 months agoYes. Dress in layers and calmly take one off when it happens. Bedtime is odd because I start off chilled, then throw off all blankets and the sheet and gradually add them back on when I wake up cool. MY doctor said that if night sweats are bad, he sometimes prescribes Gabapentin. I've only been on Arimidex for a month, so I feel OK without anything extra. No hair loss....yet. Hopefully not gonna happen, but will deal with it if it does. That's what we do...kee I adjusting to new changes. ❤️

6 months agoI’ve started carrying a small battery operated fan in my purse. And dress in layers.

6 months agoDress in layers! As soon as I’m done being hot I get really cold. It is cardigan season 100% of the time on my world now.

6 months agoSame layers! I also try to stay calmer as when I have even the slightest stressful thought or moment it tends to trigger one. A little anecdotal evidence is that when I was on vacation this winter I had way fewer hot flashes! My doctor heard similar experiences from her other patients as well. So yoga, breathing, meditation or whatever keeps you calm.
