6 months agoI am so sorry to hear this... Have you been in touch with your Oncologist/Radiation Oncologist? If not please do so.. The burns sometimes irritate the nerve endings so much... I am sending my prayers for comfort and healing and above all strength... Please stay strong and keep pushing forward!!!!

6 months agoHow many more treatments do you have left? The night before my last treatment to my clavicle area I was at my wits end too. It was just intense. The last five were a piece of cake but those were just to the two areas that had cancer

6 months agoDefinitely ask if there is something more you can do. Gabapentin was my friend at night. Advil / tylonal during the day because I had to function. Super loose soft tshirts and lots of whatever lotion, steroid cream you have that is working. Tallow and castor oil were my go to. Sending prayers and good juju to you.

6 months agoHi Maureen, I am sorry for your pain. I have psoratic arthritis in addition to Cancer. My arthritis flared up bad in the second half of my radiation. My radiologist gave me a 15 day RX of 7.5 mg Hydrocodone with 3.5mg of Tylenol. Thats not enough to get you hooked or anything, it just takes the edges of that severe pain so you can sleep. In addition he gave me a tube of zinc oxide. Its sticky and gets on your clothes, but it helped so much I just put kleenex sheets ( plain no perfumes ) across the worst skin break down. I also have a nice fat aloevera plant. I cut 2" wide pieces of the end of the spears, i sliced dowh the back and opened it flat I applied the wet side of the piece all over, let it dry, I did that a couple times a day after showers. That helped heal it alot faster. I think the sleep helped a whole lot. Prayers for your recovery... xoxoxo

Idk if this would help you but I have Rheumatoid arthritis too and have a topical compounded cream that has numbing, anti inflammatory and 5% Ketamine to help with my nerve and joint pain. 6 months agoOh my gosh Maureen, hang in there! It soon will be over, but in the mean time I used loose fitting string shoulder cotton t’s and aquafor to help. It was blistering and bad sunburn symptoms that hurt. But know, this to shall end! NOTHING is forever and this won’t be either. I know that after radiation I started lymph massage and that helped SO very much with swelling and adema. Stretching also helped when all the radiation was done and healed. Ask for help and please ask for pain medication to help! Nothing is worth suffering all this pain for! 🫶😇

6 months agoDuring radiation, one of the doctors told me to pick up some Men’s ribbed tank tops a size smaller than I would usually wear - got them at Target and they were great. Later, I found a couple of Jockey crop tops of the same type ribbing. I still wear them occasionally or wear them to bed - no binding or irritation.

6 months agoThere’s a protective foil called Mipetal they can apply to protect your skin before treatment. It takes time to apply but prevents 95% of burns

6 months agoI urge you to talk to your patient navigator. I was told the pain is from the nerves trying to heal themselves. You are not alone! Each day is a new day. I had some pretty serious burns. They gave me prescription burn cream and medicated gauze and it helped a lot. Please hang in there!

6 months agoI also found some aloe gel with lidocaine and that helped also. Keep your lotions and creams in the fridge so it’s cool when you put it on. That helps as well.

6 months agoWhy are these doctors so afraid to give cancer patients pain medication. Tramadol is helpful and not as strong as percocet. Gabepentin can help nerve pain. Talk to your family doctor

6 months agoThese surgeons that do these surgeries should have to manage the pain afterwards. It seems like neglect.
